Israeli Air Force conducted an airstrike on Damascus and Aleppo Airports, Syria – 12 October 2023

The airstrike on Syrian infrastructure demonstrates that Israel is already taking preventative action against nearby Arab nations to stop them from providing Hamas with logistical support. Damascus’s regime has indeed already expressed its support of Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory.
Israeli Army’s Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, already confirmed that the strikes were conducted to challenge Iran and Damascus’s regime’s response to Israeli sovereignty. He also added that it was a preliminary response.
The Syrian military reacted to this incident by qualifying it as a desperate attempt by Israelis to divert attention from their armed actions on Gaza’s territory. Though Israel is known known to conduct airstrikes on Syrian soil, given the circumstances, this might have a significant regional impact.
